Paul Pogba, who has been absent from competitive play since September 2023, is expected to debut for AS Monaco soon, according to manager Sebastien Pocognoli. Pocognoli emphasized the importance of managing expectations as the midfielder prepares to return.

Pogba, formerly of Juventus and Manchester United, joined Ligue 1 club Monaco on a free transfer in June. In February 2024, the 32-year-old received a four-year ban after testing positive for DHEA, a substance that increases testosterone levels. The ban was reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“Currently, things are progressing well, and I anticipate it won’t be long before he re-joins the squad," Pocognoli stated on Tuesday. “Upon his return, we will need to collaboratively evaluate his performance as a player."

“The Paul Pogba from Manchester United or his early Juventus days is from several years ago," he added. “Players evolve with age and experience, so we must assess him considering his background and age."

“From my observations, he still has the technique we’re familiar with. The match rhythm will provide further insights. He has the potential to be his best at AS Monaco; it will be my responsibility to guide him towards that level."

Monaco, currently sixth in the league standings, is set to play against Nantes later on Wednesday.
