Former panchayat president house burgled in Tiruvannamalai

A gang of four persons decamped with 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and cash from the house of the former panchayat president of Edyankulathur village near Polur town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday. Police said that the victim was identified as P. Kotteshwari, 45. After her husband died a few years ago, she was living in the house alone with her three children working in Chennai.   Initial inquiry revealed that Kotteshwari was sleeping at home when the gang broke open the main door of the house past midnight. As she tried to raise an the alarm, the gang allegedly attacked her and tied her to a chair. The gang took away gold jewellery in the cupboards, silver objects and Rs 10,000 cash. The gang sprinkled chilli powder in the house to evade detection before they fled the spot.   Police said that after sometime, Kotteshwari managed to untie herself and rushed to neighbours, who alerted Chetpet police. Along with sniffer dogs and forensic experts, police inspected the house. Fingerprints were taken. Police have also taken footage along the route where the house was located. The Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered. A probe is under way.
