The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the former TTD Chairman, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, of having single-handedly run the ‘Parakamani scam’ show and feigning ignorance today.
TTD Trust Board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy addressed the media here on Sunday along with BJP State official spokesperson J. Madhusudhan and legal counsel K. Ajay Kumar, when he accused Mr. Karunakar Reddy of functioning directly at the behest of the then Chief Minister.
“Mr. Karunakar Reddy convened a media conference today to inform the world about the ‘great compromise’ and his ‘humanitarian gesture’ after we brought the shady deal to light. Why did he not call the media when the accused was forced to register his properties in favour of the TTD way back in 2023?” was his poser.
Mr. Bhanuprakash Reddy pointed out that the erstwhile board, under the YSRCP regime, had clearly erred in making a resolution to accept the tainted property from the accused and, in turn, providing him a safe exit from the legal wrangles.
In consonance with the present TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, he announced to take up a thorough review of the previous board’s controversial decisions.
Referring to the charge-sheet filed by the Tirumala police against the accused, C. Ravi Kumar, registering cases against him under IPC Sections 379 and 381, Mr. Ajay Kumar observed that while Section 379 (simple theft) was a compoundable offence, Section 381 (theft by a servant or clerk committing theft of a property of his master, punishable with imprisonment up to seven years) cannot be compounded.
Mr. Madhusudhan said the erstwhile YSRCP government neither had any respect for the Constitution nor for democratic values.
He expressed surprise at the “settlement” of the Parakamani case in the Lok Adalat within six months of filing of the charge-sheet, wondering if the justice delivery system could function so fast for the common man too.
