Minister of Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan inaugurated a project to provide drinking water to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Udhagamandalam on Thursday.
The project is to be undertaken at a cost of ₹27.25 crore by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), the Minister said. At the event, Mr. Saminathan added that through the project, 1.7 million litres of water will be supplied to the hospital and college every day.
Mr. Saminathan said that it was estimated that the medical college and hospital would require 0.79 million litres of water every day for effective functioning, and that most of the supply would be from the dam at Thalakundha near Muthanadu Mund. The water from the reservoir will be pumped through a water treatment plant, purified and stored in storage tanks at the hospital and medical college.
Also present were Chief Whip of the Government and Coonoor MLA K. Ramachandran, District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, and Ooty MLA R. Ganesh.
