Rajesh Kumar PandeyDumka: Deoghar Police on Thursday arrested four alleged cybercriminals during a raid in the Sarath police station area and recovered several mobile phones and equipment suspected to have been used in online fraud.During a news conference, Deoghar SP Praveen Pushkar said the operation followed a tip-off that suspicious youths were frequently making calls from a forested area under Sarath police station limits. A special team was formed under Cyber DSP Kailash Prasad Mahto to conduct the raid.During the search in the Sarath forest area, police detained four youths. Their interrogation allegedly revealed that they were part of an organised cyber fraud network, following which they were formally arrested.According to the SP, the accused posed as an e-commerce customer care executives, payment banking officials and online payment service representatives to deceive people. Police said they admitted sending fake APK files to targeted individuals.Once downloaded and installed, the malicious applications allowed the criminals to gain remote access to victims’ mobile phones. They could then access banking applications, passwords, OTPs, and other sensitive information to carry out financial fraud.Those arrested were Kamruddin Ansari, Abdul Karim Ansari and Samir Ansari, all residents of the Sarath police station area, and Wasim Ansari of Asahna village under Palajori police station limits.
