Four passengers, including two kids and a B.Tech student, were killed, and 16 others were injured, eight of them critically, when an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus from Chittoor depot collided with a truck in a bid to overtake the vehicle at Gottipura Gate in Hoskote taluk of Karnataka in the early hours of Friday (June 13, 2025).
The deceased were identified as Keshava Reddy (44), Tulasi (21 - B.Tech student), Pranathi (4), and Maria (1) — all hailing from Gangadhara Nellore (GD Nellore) near Chittoor. According to reports, two others from the same region of Chittoor district are said to be battling for life at a hospital in Bengaluru.
The bus was on its way to Bengaluru from Tirupati, when the accident occurred. The driver lost control and rammed into a truck when his efforts failed to overtake it at high speed. Following the incident, traffic on the busy Kolar-Hoskote National Highway came to a grinding halt from 3.00 am to 7.30 am.
Police personnel from Kolar, Bengaluru, and Hoskote rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the nearby hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the area hospital at Hoskote for post-mortem. All the passengers were said to have been in deep sleep when the tragedy took place.
Minister for Transport Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy and former Deputy Chief Minister Kalattur Narayanaswamy (ex-MLA of GD Nellore assembly constituency) expressed shock at the road mishap and spoke to the family members of the deceased.
The Hoskote police registered a case and took up further investigation. District Collector Sumit Kumar directed the local officials to make arrangements for the transportation of the deceased persons to their native place at GD Nellore.
