Four held for assaulting man over his marriage to widow

The Anantapur police on Friday (October 31, 2025) arrested four men for abducting and assaulting a man named Shankar over his marriage to a widowed woman.

The police said that the attack occurred on October 29 near Ramnagar in the city. The accused identified as Janardhan Reddy and three accomplices dragged Shankar into an SUV and took him to fields near Vadiyampet. The accused allegedly thrashed Shankar with iron rods, cables, a belt, and a stick. Shankar is now receiving treatment at Anantapur General Hospital, the police said.

The police registered an attempt-to-murder case at the IV-Town police station, and seized the vehicle and weapons used for committing the crime. Circle-Inspector Jagadish confirmed the arrests of the four accused in the assault case.
