Four persons, including three labourers, died of asphyxiation on Tuesday after a septic tank under construction collapsed in Nabarangapur district.
The incident took place in Padalguda village, where labourers were building a septic tank for a man identified as Mohan Nag. Officials said a section of the tank’s slab unexpectedly gave way, critically injuring two workers inside.
A third labourer entered the tank attempting to rescue them but became trapped as more debris fell. In a desperate attempt to help, a passerby also entered, only to succumb to the hazardous conditions within.
Fire department personnel promptly arrived at the scene after receiving the alert. They rescued the trapped individuals and rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital, where all four were declared dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as M. Santu (28), Amir Khura (30), Trilochan Bhatra (25), and Lalu Rana Kamara (26).
