 Director Guillermo Del Toro gets emotional, says ‘I’m in postpartum depression’

The upcoming horror-thriller classic ‘Frankenstein’ from the mind of Guillermo Del Toro has been creating a lot of buzz amongst the public. Now, ahead of the release of the film, Del Toro sheds some light on the project, characters, and how bittersweet and sad it felt finishing the production, calling it “post-partum depression”.

During a press conference held at the Venice Film Festival for his film’s premiere, the Oscar-winning director spoke about his experience of working behind the camera. According to a France 24 report, the director shared that he feels “empty” after the project has already been wrapped up and is entering its final stages before the theatrical and OTT release.He added, “I’ve been following the creature since I was a kid”.

While talking about the creation of the film, he said that he took a lot of time to get things as right as possible, referring to the film’s creative direction as well as scope. “I always waited for the movie to be done in the right conditions, both creatively and in terms of achieving the scope that it needed for me to make it different, to make it at a scale that you could reconstruct the whole world. And now I'm in post-partum depression”, the ‘The Shape of Water’ director added.

The film is a retelling of the old classic by Mary Shelley. Starring names such as Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Ralph Ineson, the film has created a lot of traction and premiered for the first time at the Venice Film Festival. The film is slated for its theatrical release in October, while it will be made available for watching on OTT platforms in November. Isaac will play the role of the infamous Dr Frankenstein, while Elordi will transform into ‘The Monster’ after the doctor’s obsessions of creating life get the best of him.
