On the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi festival, the coalition government has decided to provide free electricity to Ganesh pandals across the State.

A statement on Monday said several organisers who set up Ganesh festival mandapams requested Minister Nara Lokesh to arrange free electricity supply to the areas where idols are installed. Responding to their request, Mr. Lokesh discussed the matter with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Power Minister Gottipati Ravikumar. Around 15,000 Ganesh idols are being installed across the State. To provide free electricity to these pandals, the government will have to bear an expenditure of about ₹25 crore.

Taking into consideration the convenience of crores of Ganesh devotees in the State, the Chief Minister responded positively to Mr. Lokesh’s request and issued orders to release a special Government Order (G.O.) in this regard. Similarly, the government has also decided to provide free electricity to Durga Puja pandals that will be set up during the upcoming Vijayadasami festival.
