An ambulance was set on fire and another damaged during a clash between workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the CPI(M) at Nedumangad here, police said on Monday, adding that an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
PTI quoted Nedumangad police as stating that tension erupted in the area after a local CPI(M) leader was allegedly attacked by SDPI activists on Sunday evening.
Later, in retaliation, some unidentified people reportedly targeted the houses of SDPI workers.
The police further said that masked individuals were seen damaging an ambulance and a car owned by an SDPI activist on Sunday night.
In a suspected retaliatory move, an ambulance operated by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI(M), parked near a government hospital, was set on fire early Monday morning, PTI reported.
Following the incident, police said that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain whether Sunday’s clash was a fallout of the clash that took place two weeks ago.
They added that patrolling activities have been strengthened in the area to prevent any further clashes.
