From Nikol to 100+ Businesses: How I Built a WhatsApp Marketing Agency Without Funding

New Delhi: In 2020, I was 24, working as a salesman at a digital marketing agency in Mumbai, putting in 15-hour days chasing a future I could not see clearly yet. Then Covid sent me home to Ahmedabad. What felt like a setback at the time became the reset that built UV Digital Solution.

The Salesman Who Wanted More

I grew up in a Marwadi family in Ahmedabad, where business runs in the blood, but patience for slow ladders does not always come with it. By the time I was 24, I had moved to Mumbai to work as a salesman at a digital marketing agency. The job was not glamorous. It was calls, follow-ups, client objections, and long hours.

I worked 15 hours a day. Not because anyone demanded it, but because I had decided early that I wanted to build something of my own eventually, and the only way I knew to get there was to understand the business from the inside first. Selling digital marketing services taught me something I did not expect to value as much as I do now: I learned exactly what clients complain about, what makes them say yes, and what makes them walk away.

Then March 2020 happened. COVID lockdown sent me back to Ahmedabad, back to family, back to a city I had left to chase opportunity elsewhere.

The Reset I Did Not Ask For

Most people would call returning home during a lockdown a pause. I decided to treat it as a starting line.

Ahmedabad in 2020 had no shortage of small businesses. What it lacked was anyone explaining digital marketing to them in a way that made sense and actually delivered, without disappearing after the first invoice. I had spent years on the selling side of an agency in Mumbai, watching what worked and what clients genuinely valued. I decided to stop selling someone else’s service and start building my own.

In 2022, I founded UV Digital Solution, based out of Nikol, Ahmedabad, with personal savings and no external funding. My early focus became WhatsApp Bulk Marketing Service in Ahmedabad, a channel I noticed local businesses understood instinctively but had no structured way to use. Salons, jewellery shops, coaching institutes, and small retailers were already using WhatsApp to talk to their customers informally. Nobody was helping them turn that into a real campaign.

Building Trust One Campaign at a Time

The first years were not about scale. They were about proving that a WhatsApp campaign could run without an account getting blocked, without overpromising results, and without disappearing the moment payment cleared.

I built a simple operating principle that came directly from my years watching clients get burned by other agencies in Mumbai: tell people honestly which option fits their budget and goal before taking their money. If WhatsApp Business API was not the right fit for a small shop owner with a tight budget, I would say so and recommend something smaller instead. That honesty became my agency’s reputation before its marketing ever did.

Four years later, UV Digital Solution has worked with 100-plus businesses across Ahmedabad. I have run WhatsApp campaigns for salons, jewellery shops, coaching institutes, wholesalers, grocery stores, and even a political party awareness drive. The team that started as just me working out of Nikol has grown to more than 10 people.

What Stayed the Same

The 15-hour days from Mumbai never really stopped. They just changed shape. Where they once meant cold calls and client pitches, they now mean campaign reviews, team training, and conversations with business owners who walk into my Nikol office unsure whether WhatsApp marketing is worth the risk.

I still answer most of those calls personally. For someone running a team of 10 plus people and serving over a hundred clients, I know that level of direct involvement is unusual. It is also, honestly, the only way I know how to run a business: the same way I sold digital marketing services in Mumbai at 24, one honest conversation at a time.

The Lesson I Would Pass On

My story does not follow the funding-round, scale-fast playbook that dominates most startup conversations. There was no seed round, no pitch deck, no accelerator. There was a salesman who worked long hours in a city that was not his own, a lockdown that sent him home, and a decision to build something with what he had rather than wait for ideal conditions.

For entrepreneurs in tier two and tier three Indian cities watching the startup world from the outside, that might be the more useful lesson. The big break is not always a market opportunity nobody else saw. Sometimes it is a forced pause that becomes the push you finally needed to start.
