Liverpool have reportedly floated the idea of making a surprise move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford during this summer’s transfer window.
The Reds have already made significant moves in the market, securing the signings of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, as well as left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
With defensive and midfield reinforcements in place, attention at Anfield has now turned to strengthening the attack, specifically in the search for a new No.9.
Rashford on Liverpool’s Radar
According to the Daily Mail, Rashford has surprisingly emerged on Liverpool’s shortlist of striker targets. The 26-year-old, who is reportedly pushing to leave Old Trafford, is being monitored as a potential option by the Merseyside club.
Despite the interest, the report notes that no meaningful discussions have taken place within the Liverpool boardroom regarding a concrete move for the England international. For now, Rashford remains only a name under consideration.
Rashford, who fell out of favour at Manchester United last season, is not expected to be part of Erik ten Hag’s plans moving forward. The club is actively seeking a solution to move the forward away this summer.
The second half of last season saw Rashford loaned out to Aston Villa, and another loan move has not been ruled out as United aim to reduce their wage bill and reshape their squad.
However, Rashford is understood to favour a move to Spain, with Barcelona being his preferred destination. He is reportedly willing to wait as long as necessary to complete a switch to the Camp Nou.
Liverpool’s Striker Search Continues
While Rashford remains a speculative option, Liverpool have a number of more established targets in mind.
The club has already made inquiries about Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
At the top of Liverpool’s wish list is Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old Sweden international, who has impressed at St James’ Park and wears the No.14 shirt, has attracted strong interest from the Anfield hierarchy as Arne Slot looks to reshape the squad in his first full season at the helm.
However, Newcastle are determined to keep hold of their star forward and have made it clear he is not for sale this summer.
