Uganda’s famous dance group Ghetto Kids is set to perform with global singer Shakira at the FIFA World Cup 2026 halftime show. The announcement has excited fans across the world, especially after the group’s long journey from viral dance clips in Kampala to international stages.
The group has become widely known for their energetic performances and inspiring background. Their latest achievement now places them alongside some of the biggest names in global music and entertainment.
Shakira Shares Exciting Update
Shakira confirmed the news through a video shared on her official Instagram account on May 20. While speaking about Dai Dai, the official FIFA World Cup 2026 song featuring Burna Boy, the singer revealed that she had already invited the Ghetto Kids to join her performance during the tournament.
“I’ve already invited the Ghetto Kids from Uganda," Shakira said while talking about the response the song has received online. The singer also encouraged fans to continue making dance videos using Dai Dai and share them online. According to her, she has been closely watching the creativity of fans from around the world.
“I’ve seen incredible creations for Dai Dai, the official World Cup song," Shakira said. “I really, really would love to see all your creations and your videos, so keep sending them because I’ll be watching very closely."
The song combines several music styles including Afrobeats, reggaetón, dance-pop and world music. The track was created to reflect the international spirit of the FIFA World Cup.
Ghetto Kids’ Rise From Uganda
The Ghetto Kids were founded in 2014 by Dauda Kavuma. The group is made up of children from Katwe, a slum area in Kampala, Uganda.

They first became popular after their homemade dance video on Eddy Kenzo’s song Sitya Loss gained huge attention online. Their energetic moves and cheerful performances helped them build a large fan following across different countries.
Over the years, the group has appeared on several international platforms. They were featured in French Montana’s music video for Unforgettable and also performed during events linked to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Apart from music and performances, Dai Dai is also connected to a social cause. Reports say royalties from the song will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The initiative aims to raise $100 million by the end of the tournament to improve education and football opportunities for children worldwide.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place between June 11 and July 19 across 16 cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The tournament’s opening ceremony is also expected to include performances by several international stars including Katy Perry, LISA, Rema, Anitta, Future, J Balvin, Tyla and Alanis Morissette.
