In a rare recognition of sporting excellence, Constable Shivani of the Border Security Force (BSF) was promoted out-of-turn to head constable, just five months after joining the force.

The honor comes after her stunning silver medal performance at the 17th World Wushu Championship held in Brazil in August–September 2025.

Out-of-Turn Promotion for Sporting Glory

Shivani, 21, had the ribbon of her new rank pinned by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary at a camp of the border-guarding force on Thursday.

A BSF spokesperson said the promotion was granted for her “outstanding performance in the World Wushu Championship," with all necessary relaxations approved by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Under normal circumstances, it takes a BSF constable 15 to 18 years to climb to the next rank, making Shivani’s rapid promotion highly unusual and a testament to her achievement.

Following a Rising Trend

Shivani is not the first to receive such recognition recently.

In July, Constable Anuj earned a similar out-of-turn promotion after his remarkable performance at the 10th Sanda World Wushu Championship in China earlier this year.

The BSF, which has around 2.7 lakh personnel, is primarily responsible for guarding India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, while also contributing to various internal security operations.
