Funds sanctioned for repairing approach roads to level crossings on Chingavanam-Chottanikkara rail line

Railways have sanctioned ₹60 lakh for tarring and renovating the approach roads to the level crossings along the Chingavanam-Chottanikkara railway line, Kottayam MP Francis George has said.

As the ownership of the roads on either side of the level crossings lies with Railways, other departments have not taken up the responsibility of repairing or maintaining them. Over the years, the condition of these roads has deteriorated, causing severe inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians. Accidents, particularly involving two-wheelers, have become a frequent occurrence on these stretches, he said in a statement in Kottayam recently.

The funds were sanctioned following discussions the MP held with the railway authorities. The estimate has been prepared and tender procedures completed and the works will commence shortly, the MP added.
