The Gaganachukki Jalapathotsava will be celebrated in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district on September 13 and 14.

Announcing this at a press conference in Mandya on Friday, MLA for Malavalli P.M. Narendraswamy, who is also the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KPSCB), said that a two-day programme had been chalked out on the occasion to transform Gaganachukki into an attractive tourist destination so that a large number of visitors turn up at the enchanting waterfalls for the occasion.

He also appealed to the public to attend the Jalapathotsava celebrations.

As works related to water supply were under way near Rottikatte, the stage will be set up near Malli Kyatanahalli this year, Mr. Narendraswamy said, while adding that LED screens will be installed near the venue to facilitate the public to savour the enchanting views of the waterfalls.

A free bus service will be arranged from Malavalli taluk to Gaganachukki, which will not only facilitate smooth travel for the public, but also ensure greater public and tourist participation at the event, the MLA said.

Visitors to the festival of waterfalls will also be provided free breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both the days of Gaganachukki Jalapathotsava, said Mr. Narendraswamy.

The organisers will ensure seating arrangements for the visitors on the steps and arrange for illumination of the waterfalls, the MLA said. “Plans are also on the anvil to develop an aqua park in the future. In addition, under the PPP model, projects like gardens and water sports are also being planned,” he added.

Local artists will be given the opportunity to perform between 11 a.m. and and 3 p.m. on both the days. Apart from this, two or three talented school/college students from the district will also be invited to perform.

Stalls of various government departments will be displayed during the festival. A Laser Light Show and Light & Sound Show are also planned as part of the event, said Mr. Narendraswamy.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to inaugurate the Gaganachukki Jalapathotsava at 6.30 p.m. on September 13. Actor Dali Dhananjaya will be present at the programme.
