Game addiction: 14-year-old girl dies by suicide after parents refuse to give phone

MUMBAI: A 14-year-old girl died by suicide at a tribal hamlet in Aarey Colony on Monday as she wasn't allowed to play a mobilephone game. Aarey Colony Police are recording her parents' statement.

The incident occurred around 3.45pm at Unit no. 22 inside Aarey Colony. The girl (identity kept confidential as she was a minor) was found hanging in the house by her family. She was unconsicous. The Aarey police was summoned and she was rushed to the Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari. Doctors pronounced her dead before admission.Subsequently, police spoke to her parents who said that the girl used to play mobilephone games frequently. When her parents refused to give her the phone on Monday, she was furious undocked herself in the room. Later her parents discovered that she had used her dupatta to hang herself. Her body was sent to Siddharth Hospital's post mortem centre for an autopsy examination. Aarey Colony Police have recorded an accidental death case.
