The Gandhotsavam (Urus festival) commenced with religious fervour at the Ameen Peer Dargah, popularly known as Pedda Dargah, in Kadapa on Friday, drawing thousands of devotees from across the southern States and Maharashtra.

On behalf of the State government, Government Whip and local MLA Reddeppagari Madhavi, District Collector Sridhar Cherukuri, and TDP politburo member and district president R. Srinivasa Reddy presented a ‘Chadar’ at the Dargah as a mark of respect.

Mr. Sridhar and Mr. Srinivasa Reddy donned the traditional brick-coloured headgear, while Ms. Madhavi draped a dupatta over her head. The trio carried the ‘Chadar’ in a procession from the Mahila Police Station to the Dargah, accompanied by devotees.

Later, they interacted with community leaders and assured all support for the smooth conduct of the week-long festival.

Kadapa Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Manoj Reddy, Revenue Divisional Officer John Irwin, Jana Sena leader Sunkara Srinivas, and several corporators were also present.
