Ganjam district provides shelters to over 100 Andhra Pradesh fishermen amid cyclone threat

Berhampur: Ganjam district administration on Monday provided shelter to over 100 fishermen from Andhra Pradesh and their trawlers at Gopalpur Port in view of the impending cyclone.

They will return to their state after the situation becomes normal, said collector (Ganjam) Keerthi Vassan V.The fishermen were in deep sea in 28 fishing trawlers and could not return home as the sea became rough under the influence of the cyclone. The Gopalpur port authorities have allowed them in the safe backwater zone. In 2021, Ganjam district administration had provided temporary rehabilitation to over 200 Andhra Pradesh fishermen in the port during the landfall of cyclonic storm GulabDevidutta Mohanty, assistant fishery officer (marine), Ganjam said the fishermen in the district have reached their respective villages after the administration issued a warning. “Our field staff alerted them. We have also certified that all the fishermen are in their respective villages,” he said.
