Flyovers on three levels are being proposed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a panacea for the traffic problems near the intersection of Mindspace road and the Gachibowli-Miyapur road in the western part of the city.
If approved by the government, this will become the second such project in the city with flyovers at three levels. The first such instance too was in Gachibowli, on the Old Mumbai Highway where three flyovers -- Gachibowli flyover, Shilpa Layout Flyover and P. Janardhan Reddy flyover -- criss-cross one another near Telecom Nagar at different levels.
The civic body has prepared proposals with an estimate of ₹290 crore for the latest project, and sent it to the government for approval, sources shared. After approval, it will be included in the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project under which 55 works are already in different stages of execution with funding from the government.
Solution for Mehdipatnam
One more addition to the project could be a flyover connecting the Masab Tank-Banjara Hills road with the Chintal Basti road, for which Detailed Project Report is being prepared. This flyover, along with a considerable portion of road widening, will be part of a larger solution to ease the traffic congestion on the route from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital towards Road No. 1, Banjara Hills via First Lancer and Pension Office covering over three kilometres.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is also in charge of Metropolitan Administration & Urban Development wing, is said to have been keen about the two projects, and asked officials to expedite the proposals.
As part of the H-CITI project, 26 are flyovers, 12 underpasses, four roads over bridges, and three roads under bridges are being constructed, apart from 10 components of road widening. Of these components, 27 are already underway -- a few at the stage of soil testing, and a few where underground utilities are being scanned. In case of 13 components, agency approval is awaited, and five more are in tendering process.
Ten more components are delayed as they are linked with either the South Central Railways (in case of RoBs and RuBs), or with the Hyderabad Metro Rail, officials informed.
