Girl, 17, arrested for plotting, killing ex-lover in Uttarakhand

ROORKEE: A 17-year-old girl and her aide were arrested on Saturday for allegedly plotting the murder of her former lover in Roorkee. Police officials described the case as “particularly shocking,” noting that all those involved, including the victim, were between 17 and 20 years old.

“For them to be implicated in a crime of this nature, involving planning, conspiracy and murder, is highly unusual,” they said.Investigations revealed that the girl and Deepak Rawat, a local resident, had studied together in Class 11 and were once in a relationship. The two wanted to marry, but their families opposed the match due to their age. Despite this, they remained physically involved until she eventually ended the relationship and grew close to another youth, Raja Sharma.

When Deepak allegedly continued to pressure her for physical relations, she confided in Raja and urged him to “get Deepak out of the way”.SSP Haridwar Pramendra Singh Dobal said, “While the girl and one accomplice are in custody, multiple teams have been deployed to track down Raja and the others. An FIR has been registered under BNS sections 140 (kidnapping), 103 (murder), 61 (two or more individuals commit an illegal act) and 236 (false statements).”

On Aug 10, the girl asked Deepak to drop her to Ghaziabad, but they were intercepted near Subharti Medical College in Meerut by Raja and his associates. Police said the group allegedly took him to the Gangnahar canal in Muradnagar, strangled him and dumped his body. The victim’s father lodged a missing complaint at Gangnahar police station, Roorkee, on Aug 13. His body was later recovered from the canal near Dehra barrage in Hapur.

The girl and an accomplice, Mohd Mohsin, 18, were subsequently arrested.Deepak, the youngest of four siblings, lived with his family in a rented house in Roorkee. The family, originally from Lucknow, runs a beverage shop in Haridwar. “My brother truly loved her. But the way she betrayed him calls for nothing less than the death penalty,” said his elder brother, Chandra Prakash.
