Girl, 17, beaten to death by father over ‘affair’

Bijnor: A 17-year-old girl was beaten to death by her father over her affair with a 20-year-old man of the same village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district early on Wednesday. The accused has been taken into custody and confessed to the crime. An FIR has been registered under BNS section 103 (murder), police said.The incident took place at a village under Nagina police station. The father told police that he had seen the man leaving his house after meeting his daughter, and in a fit of rage he committed the crime, said circle officer Rajesh Kumar Solanki.Police said the family was opposed to the teenager’s relationship, and despite repeated efforts to persuade her to end the relationship, she refused, leading to escalating tensions within the family. In the early hours of Wednesday, police were alerted through the emergency helpline that the man was brutally assaulting his daughter. A police team reached the house and found the girl lying dead in a room. The body was later sent for postmortem examination.Police said the father works at a bakery and has six children, including five daughters and one son. The victim was the eldest.
