Girl dies as ambulance overturns on the way to hospital

A 16-year-old girl died while being shifted to a hospital after the ambulance transporting her met with an accident on the Aland-Kalaburagi Road on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Radhika, daughter of Baburao, a resident of Madiyal village in Aland taluk of Kalaburagi district.

According to sources, Radhika was suffering from fever. She was initially treated at the Nimbarga Primary Health Centre. Doctors later referred her to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences in Kalaburagi for further treatment.

While she was being transported to the hospital, the ambulance met with an accident on a railway overbridge along the Aland-Kalaburagi Road.

Radhika died of injuries while being shifted to hospital.

Her parents, along with the staff nurse and the ambulance driver, suffered injuries in the road accident.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Shashidhar Kosumbe has suo motu taken cognisance of the accident.

He has directed the officials concerned to conduct an inquiry to ascertain whether the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence or any other factor.

The commission has also asked the district administration to submit a detailed report within five days, including information on the compensation provided to the bereaved family.
