Well, for many Oscar Piastri fans, Lando Norris has already been public enemy number one, and the Brit took a playful jab at the same in a lighthearted exchange with fans in Austin on Thursday.

Ahead of the United States Grand Prix set to take place in Austin, both McLaren drivers were part of a fan interaction.

Lando, who was asked about his experience in Austin so far, took a cheeky jab at the Americans present by pulling their leg by referring to European football as the ‘real’ football.

“I’ve never been to a football game — American football — I’ve been to like real football, joked Norris as the Austin crowd started booing him.

And out of the blue, yelled one spirited fan, “Go Oscar!" to which the British driver flipped the bird ever-so-quickly in a moment of hilarious retaliation.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry- there are kids here [..] the American culture is amazing! It’s just rowdy," Norris kept going as he pointed to the fan, as the crowd chuckled.

One shall be hoping that the McLaren duo keep up the same high spirits, after what proved to be a tumultuous Singapore GP a couple weeks back.

Norris-Piastri Drama At Singapore

Norris and Piastri’s championship rivalry reached a boiling point at the Singapore GP, after the McLaren pair made contact on the opening lap — leaving Piastri furious with his teammate’s driving.

Starting fifth, Norris got a blistering start off the line, passing Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli and lunging alongside Piastri into Turn 3. As he tried to avoid Red Bull’s Max Verstappen ahead, Norris clipped the Dutchman’s rear wheel, which in turn pitched him into his own teammate’s car — slightly damaging Piastri’s front wing.

The 24-year-old Australian, who leads the drivers’ standings by 22 points currently, admitted he had challenged the team’s decision during the race but said discussions since then had brought unity.

“We know how we’re going to go racing going forward, which is the most important thing."

Favourites At Austin

With three races since their last win, McLaren are looking to bounce back in Texas.

Norris trails Piastri by 22 points but impressed at Austin in 2023, finishing second behind Max Verstappen.

Piastri, meanwhile, hasn’t enjoyed much luck at the Circuit of the Americas, managing a fifth-place finish and one DNF in his two starts.

As for Verstappen, the Red Bull ace heads into the weekend riding a four-race podium streak — two of them victories — and looks ready to spoil McLaren’s party once again.
