Panaji: Goa recorded widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours as the southwest monsoon remained active over the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa.
The state received an average rainfall of 57.1 mm during the period, nearly 82% above the normal daily average. The IMD has forecast continued active monsoon conditions, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely across Goa from June 24 to June 30.In the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on June 24, five rain gauge stations recorded heavy rainfall (64.5–115.5mm). Canacona received the highest rainfall at 97mm, followed by Valpoi (92mm), Dharbandora (82.4mm), Mapusa (80.4mm), and Sanguem (73.8mm).Moderate rainfall was reported across most other parts of the state. Margao recorded 51.8mm, Pernem 45mm, Panaji 39.2mm, Ponda 30mm, Mormugao 29.8mm, and Dabolim 29.6mm. The lowest rainfall during the period was recorded at Ela, Old Goa, which received 27.4mm.No station reported extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5mm during the 24-hour period.Despite the recent surge in rainfall, Goa’s cumulative seasonal rainfall from June 1 to June 24 remains significantly below normal.
The state has recorded an average of 335.7mm of rainfall so far this season, representing a deficit of 52.2%.The increase in rainfall also led to a slight drop in minimum temperatures, which fell by around 1°C and ranged between 23°C and 24°C across the state.The IMD has also forecast gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph at isolated places over the coming week.
