Panaji: A 19-year-old from Uttar Pradesh, Kapil Chaudhary, was allegedly murdered by the owner of a rent-a-car agency, along with others, after he was found trying to flee with an SUV. The rent-a-car company owner traced Chaudhary with the car in Maharashtra and brought him to Goa and murdered him.
Goa police have arrested three people in connection with the case.SP (North) Rahul Gupta said that a 31-year-old resident of Candolim, Gurudat Subhash Lawande, the owner of the rent-a-car company, a 31-year-old resident of Calangute, Daison Agnelo Coutinho, and a 21-year-old resident of Candolim, Suraj Jotish Thakur, have been arrested in the case.Goa police on Friday received a phone call from an unknown person informing them that a male person was lying by the roadside in a hilly area of Cansa Tivim.
Police personnel attached to Colvale police station visited the spot and noticed that a male person aged around 25-30 years, wearing a grey neck T-shirt and blue jeans, was lying in the grassy area at a distance of about 3m from the road in Pirna village.Upon verifying, they found that the person had multiple injuries on his face, which appeared swollen. Police noticed abrasion injuries on both his hands, and he was motionless.
“On checking, we found one PAN card with the name Deepak Thakur in his trouser pocket and found one empty quarter-size bottle of alcohol,” Gupta said.The body was shifted to the district hospital in Mapusa, and after the medical officer examined him, he was declared to have been brought dead to the hospital.Gupta said that while verifying the identity of the deceased, a 46-year-old resident of UP, Shrinivas Singh, appeared at the police station and informed them that his son, namely Chaudhary, who left from residence informing that he was leaving for Goa, was not traceable, and also his mobile phone was switched off.Police found that the deceased’s last location was shown in Tivim. “As the description mentioned by Singh matched that of the deceased, he was taken to the morgue for identification. Singh identified the body to be of his son,” the SP said.Singh filed a complaint against unknown persons for committing the murder of his son and for taking his belongings, including his mobile phone and bag. “Upon the technical investigation and sources, it was revealed that the deceased hired an SUV on a rental basis from Lawande on Thursday from Candolim by producing a soft copy of a motor driving licence in the name of Deepak Thakur,” Gupta said.“On the same day, Lawande found through a car tracker that his SUV crossed the Goa border towards Banda, Maharashtra. As such, he, along with his friends, left to chase and trace his SUV,” the SP said. He said that the accused traced the SUV along with Chaudhary at Kankavali, Maharashtra.“They brought the SUV along with Chaudhary to Tivim. They assaulted him with fist blows, kicks, and a wooden stick. The stick was found in the jungle at Tivim,” Gupta said. “They left him in the hilly area of Tivim in an injured condition. They purchased one quarter-size liquor bottle from a wine shop in Tivim and placed it in his pant pocket to portray as if the person was drunk.”
