Goa violence: Mob torches car over loud music complaint; 8 arrested

GOA: Eight people were arrested on Tuesday and 400 others face charges after a mob torched a man’s car outside Honda police outpost in Goa’s Valpoi on the night of Narkasur Vadh, a pre-Diwali celebration marked by firecrackers, effigy burnings and revelry across the state.

A video showing the burning vehicle and police watching from inside the outpost triggered widespread outrage online.The violence erupted after Rupesh Poke complained about loud music being played past midnight. Enraged by the complaint, a crowd of about 300 people gathered near the outpost, set off firecrackers inside Poke’s vehicle, and watched it catch fire just metres away from police.CM Pramod Sawant ordered action after the video went viral: “I will not allow such law and order situations.”
