NAMAKKAL: A goat thief fell into a well near Rasipuram in Namakkal district on Friday night while fleeing on seeing a police team on patrol. Fire and rescue services personnel rescued the man, identified as K Palanivel, 40, of Muniyappanapalayam, from the 60-foot-deep well.Around 10.30 pm, a passerby heard a yelling from a well located on a parcel of agricultural land. The passerby alerted the Rasipuram fire station. Fire and rescue personnel, led by senior officer Baskara Ramasamy, arrived at the scene and rescued the man from the well.On questioning him, it was revealed that Palanivel and his accomplice had stolen goats from near Thammampatty and were going to Rasipuram with the stolen goats. The duo panicked on seeing police. They abandoned the goats and fled. While fleeing, Palanivel fell into the well.He was admitted to Rasipuram Government Hospital.The Oilpatty police began investigations.
