At least thirty villages have been cut off in the submergence area of the Polavaram project in Chintoor agency, as the second warning of the Godavari flood remains in force upstream of the Polavaram irrigation project at Bhadrachalam.
Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Shubham Nokwal said: “The flood level is expected to fall by Monday. Those who trekked the hilly areas to escape the flood are advised to stay back for further communication”.
Most of the villages affected by the flood are located along the banks of the river Sabari.
Mr. Shubham Nokwal assured that essential commodities would be supplied by boats to the cut-off villages. Many NGOs and political representatives are also extending their support by supplying commodities.
Pregnant women who were shifted to nearby hospitals have been asked to remain in the hospitals until normalcy returns in the submerged areas.
At Sir Arthur Cotton barrage at Dowleswaram, the first Godavari flood warning was issued on Sunday. The inflow was above 11.35 lakh cusecs and 12,200 cusecs of the floodwater is being released into the Godavari delta. A few islands in the mandals of Maamidikuduru and P. Gannavaram have been cut off in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
