The mobile immersion tankers deployed by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for the immersion of Lord Ganesha idols received an encouraging response from devotees on Wednesday.
The board had pressed three tankers into service, covering different parts of the city to facilitate the immersion of idols. At Chamundipuram Circle alone, nearly 480 idols were immersed. Similarly, the tankers stationed near Kukkarahalli Lake and Lingambudi Lake witnessed the immersion of 330 and 354 idols respectively.
These mobile tankers were in addition to those arranged by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
A representative of the board stated that idol immersion in tankers has been on the rise, in view of the awareness being spread by it. The number of idols immersed in tankers has been increasing, with the board conducting drives before the festival, encouraging the public to adopt eco-friendly ways of immersion
The initiative, which has been in place for several years, offers devotees an eco-friendly alternative to immersion in lakes and other natural water bodies. Authorities had restricted idol immersion in lakes and other water bodies.
