A goods carrier driver died and another person was injured after the vehicle allegedly rammed into a lorry on the Outer Ring Road near Shamirpet on Monday (May 25).
According to police, the incident occurred while a family from Uppal was shifting household articles to Beeramguda using a goods carrier booked through the NoBroker website.
The complainant told police that his sister, Sunitha, 34, had hired the vehicle for transportation of household goods. At around 6.30 a.m., the goods carrier bearing registration number AP 28 V 5114 arrived at their residence along with labourers to load the articles.
Police said the vehicle left Uppal at around 9.30 a.m. and entered the ORR at Ghatkesar. The complainant was travelling in the cabin along with the driver, identified as Narati Ravi, and another labourer, while three labourers were seated in the rear portion of the vehicle.
At around 11 a.m., after crossing Shamirpet, the complainant allegedly noticed the vehicle veering towards the left side of the road and realised that the driver had fallen asleep while driving. Before he could alert him, the goods carrier allegedly crashed into a lorry bearing registration number TS 07 UB 5557.
The impact completely crushed the front portion of the cabin, trapping three persons inside. Narati Ravi died on the spot, while the complainant sustained minor injuries and a fracture to his leg. He was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Shamirpet police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
