Google has partnered with Cassava Technologies in Africa to expand access to Gemini in the continent. Announcing the new partnership, the company shared a blog post where it said “AI is transforming how we learn, build, and create.
This opportunity is especially urgent across Africa, the world's youngest continent, home to digital natives already shaping global culture through art, music, and technology.”Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared a post on microblogging platform X writing: “Great to see this partnership that will expand access to @GeminiApp (and 6 months of Google AI Plus) in Africa without needing to use any mobile data.”
Challenges addressed by Google’s partnership in Africa
In the blog post, Google said that the partnership between Gemini and Cassava resolves two issues – the cost of tools and the fear of “running out of data. Under the partnership, users will get
- Data-free Gemini access: Cassava is working with its extensive network of technology partners to ensure eligible users can use the Gemini app without consuming any of their mobile data.
- Six free months of Google AI Plus: Google is offering a 6-month trial of our Google AI Plus plan, giving users free access to our most intelligent models.
Google AI Plus plan also includes:
- NotebookLM to instantly turn dense textbooks into interactive study guides, flashcards, audio summaries, and more
- Gemini in Google Docs to help write papers, scholarship forms, and job applications
- Google Flow for aspiring filmmakers and creative storytelling
- 200GB of cloud storage
“We see a future where students can access Gemini 24/7 to learn new concepts, code, and create without ever watching a data meter. With the Google AI Plus trial, they can use Deep Research for complex university-level subjects, and enjoy higher creation limits for images and video with our newest creativity models,” Google said in the post.
