Google CEO Sundar Pichai has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India place crash in Ahmedabad. The crash, which occurred on June 12, 2025, involved Flight AI171, a London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew members. The aircraft, flight AI-171, took off from Runway 23 at 1:39 PM IST and issued a MAYDAY call shortly after, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The plane crashed in the Meghani Nagar area outside the airport perimeter after reaching just 625 feet altitude, exploding in a massive fireball. Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar were commanding the flight carrying 232 passengers and 10 crew members en route to London Gatwick.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Pichai shared his condolences, stating: "Heartbroken for everyone who lost loved ones in today’s plane crash in Ahmedabad and grateful for those who rushed to help."

The flight, AI171, was carrying a diverse manifest of passengers, including 169 Indian nationals and 53 British citizens. Among those reportedly on board was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

The Adani Group, which operates the Ahmedabad airport, has also publicly offered its full support to authorities in rescue operations and expressed condolences to the affected families.
