Google has launched the latest version of its popular image generation model – Nano Banana 2. Officially designated as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, the update follows the initial release of the Nano Banana model in August 2025.
The company announced the Pro version in November. Announcing Nano Banana 2 via an official blog post, Google said “Nano Banana 2 brings the high-speed intelligence of Gemini Flash to visual generation, making rapid edits and iteration possible. It makes once-exclusive Pro features accessible to a wider audience”.
Google Nano Banana 2: Key features
Google says that Nano Banana 2 brings the speed of Gemini Flash to image creation and editing. The company said the model allows users to make quick changes and create multiple versions of visuals in a short time.
It also makes several features, previously available only in Pro versions, accessible to a wider group of users. One of the main upgrades is improved world knowledge. Nano Banana 2 uses Gemini’s real-world knowledge base and real-time web information to better understand subjects. Users can turn notes into clear visual formats with more reliable details. As revealed in the Google blog post, the model also improves text rendering.
It can generate clear and readable text inside images, which can be useful for marketing mockups, greeting cards, and presentations. It also supports text translation within images, allowing users to localise content for different languages.Nano Banana 2 offers stronger creative control. It can maintain subject consistency, keeping up to five characters and 14 objects visually accurate in a single workflow.
This helps users build storyboards and visual narratives without changing the look of key elements. The company said instruction following has also improved. The model is designed to better understand complex prompts and produce images that match detailed requests more closely. The blog post further states that Nano Banana 2 can support different aspect ratios and resolutions, ranging from 512 pixels to 4K.
