Goons demolish citizen's property in Bhubaneswar's Patrapada as cops stand by

BHUBANESWAR: A gang of hooligans brazenly demolished a citizen's property in Patrapada, under the jurisdiction of Khandagiri police, on Friday. Sangram Das, the victim, lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri police on Saturday. The audacious act occurred in broad daylight, with police personnel present at the scene, as captured by CCTV footage. Das recounted the incident, stating, "We immediately contacted the police helpline (112) when the goons began tearing down my property's boundary wall. Although a police control room (PCR) van arrived promptly, the officers merely stood by, doing nothing."This was not the first time Das faced such intimidation. "On July 21, similar goons destroyed my property.

Despite filing an FIR against Satyabrata Bhabagrahi Sahoo, Bijayram Senapati, and their hired thugs on July 23, no action was taken. The lack of police intervention emboldened them to target my property again on Friday afternoon," Das explained. On Saturday, Das filed another complaint at the Khandagiri police station, but no case was registered. "There is an ongoing legal dispute over a piece of land near my property.

I possess all the necessary legal documents proving my ownership, yet Sahoo is attempting to seize it by force. The matter is currently in court, with two injunctions in place. Despite being aware of the legal proceedings, the police have not acted against the other party, who has resorted to using goons to claim my land," said Das, who has sent petitions to the chief minister, police commissioner, and director general of police, seeking justice.

In his petition, Das alleged that the Khandagiri police are pressuring him to spare the piece of land to the opposite party.Khandagiri police have stated that they are investigating the matter and awaiting guidance from the deputy commissioner of police (DCP). Attempts to reach DCP Jagmohan Meena for comment were unsuccessful. Director General of Police Y B Khurania told TOI: "I will discuss the matter with the commissioner and DCP. Hooliganism will not be tolerated. We will take action against those responsible."
