A 45-year-old farmer was beaten to death by local goons after his goat strayed into the field of one of the accused in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district.
The incident occurred in Dedhvapur village where the accused went to the home of the victim, Raju, and attacked him with sticks. During the assault, Raju died on the spot, Sitapur SP Ankur Agarwal said.
According to the villagers, the victim had a wife and five children, including two daughters and three sons. He supported his family by farming and working as a labourer.
Police arrested one of the accused, identified as Saroj Verma, while a manhunt was on to catch the remaining culprits, SP Agarwal said.
Police are conducting raids in several places in connection with the incident, the official said.
