Minister for Tribal Welfare, and Women and Child Welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani on Tuesday said 5,000 of the existing 7,000 mini anganwadi centres in the State would be upgraded into main anganwadis soon.

In a statement, Ms. Sandhya Rani said a proposal she had forwarded to this effect was approved in the recent Cabinet meeting, and an official order would be issued soon.

The Minister said each of these mini anganwadi centre had so far been handled by a single person, who would now be designated as anganwadi teacher and given proper salary and other facilities.

Additionally, 5,000 ayahs would be recruited as anganwadi helpers, the Minister said, adding that the government would consider granting one year time to the women working in the remaining 2,000 mini anganwadi centres to meet the minimum eligibility criteria to continue their work.

Ms. Sandhya Rani said the salaries of outsourced workers in schools run across the State by the Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APTWREIS), would be increased soon.
