Government will build a sports city with international standards at Amaravati, says Home Minister

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha inaugurated the All India Police Weightlifting Competition 2025-26, at Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) 6th Battalion in Mangalagiri on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister said that the government will build a sports city with international standards at Amaravati, which will host national and international events in the future. She said that 32 teams from different States, Union Territories will participate in the five-day event. “The State government is giving top priority for sports,” Ms. Anitha said.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta while welcoming the participants said that the A.P. police were happy to host the event and extended greetings to all the sportspersons.

“The tournament is not merely a contest of strength and skill, but a celebration of camaraderie, discipline, and the resolute spirit of our police forces. We look forward to develop a bond with the fellow officers from across the country,” Mr. Harish Kumar Gupta said. “I wish all the athletes the very best. May this event be filled with inspiring performances, new friendships, and cherished memories,” the DGP said.

Earlier, the participants organised a march past to mark the inauguration of the event. Senior police officers of different wings participated.
