Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati's visit to Bondaghati emphasized the holistic development of the Bonda tribe, focusing on agriculture and alternative livelihoods. He directed officials to enhance income generation through cattle, goat, and poultry rearing. The Governor also reviewed welfare schemes, distributed land pattas and financial assistance, and stressed preserving the tribe's cultural identity.
Koraput: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday underscored the need for comprehensive development of Bondaghati, home to the Bonda tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), during his first-ever visit to the region in Mudulipada panchayat under Khairput block in Malkangiri district.“The development of Bondaghati must be holistic with focus not only on agriculture but also on alternative livelihood options like cattle, goat and poultry rearing to enhance income generation for the Bonda community. The officials concerned have been directed to take appropriate steps in this regard,” the Governor said, while interacting with beneficiaries on the Bonda Development Agency premises.Earlier, members of the Bonda community welcomed the Governor with traditional music, dance and garlands before accompanying him to the sacred Sitakund and Shri Ram temple.
Stressing the need for developing the Sitakund site, the Governor reviewed the activities of the agency and inspected units for skill development, tailoring, multi-processing and traditional crafts such as textile weaving and jewellery making.He also held discussions with women self-help groups and members of the Bonda community to understand their challenges and requirements. At the BDA campus, he reviewed implementation of welfare schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PM Janman, forest land pattas and social security pensions.
On the occasion, he distributed forest land pattas to 15 Bonda and 11 Didayi families, and financial assistance under the National Family Benefit Scheme and the Madhubabu Pension Scheme.“The district administration must give priority to the welfare of the Bonda tribe while ensuring preservation of their unique cultural identity,” the Governor added addressing a public meeting at the agency campus.During his visit, he also interacted with students at a local high school and girls’ hostel, enquiring about education facilities and infrastructure. In a symbolic gesture, he joined the girl students in their mid-day meal. The Governor was accompanied by district collector Somesh Upadhaya, SP Vinod Patil and other officials.
