Govt. readying technical proposals for talks with Maharashtra on Pranahita-Chevella project

HYDERABAD

Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has reiterated that the Congress government is committed to revive the Pranahita-Chevella project to provide irrigation facility to combined Adilabad and Rangareddy districts by constructing a barrage at Tummidihatti as proposed initially.

In a preparatory meeting held here on Friday to take forward the proposal by taking up the matter with Maharashtra, he asked the Aarvee Associates and IIT Hyderabad to prepare comprehensive technical proposals to initiate consultation with the Maharashtra Government for the construction of a barrage at Tummidihatti. He asked the consultants to prepare proposals to reduce the extent of submergence in Maharashtra including the Chapral wildlife sanctuary there. He stated that the Telangana government was ready to pay appropriate compensation to the lands likely to be submerged in the backwaters of the Tummidihatti barrage.
