Govt recruits 300 for different depts through staff commission

Panaji: Govt on Friday recruited more than 300 people for different departments through the Goa Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Chief minister Pramod Sawant said only “original Goans” were hired through the commission as knowledge of Konkani has been made compulsory for recruitment. He said 215 people received appointment letters for the post of lower division clerk (LDC), and 50 people were recruited for the posts of junior stenographer, programmer, and technical assistant. State govt also handed appointment letters to selected candidates who have been recruited in 18 different govt departments.Sawant said that the process is transparent, technology-driven, and purely merit-based, ensuring fair opportunities for every Goan.

“The inclusion of a Konkani language paper further strengthens local participation and pride. I congratulate all newly-appointed employees and expect them to serve with dedication, integrity, and accountability,” he said.Sawant noted that earlier, youth had to appear for multiple exams to secure one govt job, but today, they only need to appear for one exam. Sawant said that even if a person has lived here for 15 years, they will not get the job if they do not pass the Konkani paper.

“SSC works to provide jobs to Goans,” said Sawant. The recently-conducted lower division clerk exams saw nearly 22,000 applications, and the results were uploaded on the commission website immediately after the final day of the exam. The commission shortlisted candidates based on a merit list, adhering to a 1:5 ratio. For example, if there are 10 available posts in a category, the top 50 candidates with the highest marks were selected to advance to the next stage.

This subsequent stage comprised a computer-based recruitment test (CBRT), designed to qualify candidates for the final skill test. This ensures transparency and eliminates the possibility of human bias, providing a fair and equal opportunity for talented individuals to join govt administration, a senior official said.Sawant also launched a book on the occasion of the completion of five years of the Swayampurna Goa programme. Sawant said that the state govt launched Swayampurna Goa in 2020, and the book contains success stories of swayampurna mitras from all 191 panchayats.
