Panaji: Power minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday said govt is proceeding with the installation of smart meters and added that public consultation is not required.On the opposition to smart meters, he said, “There is no discussion required to be held on this issue.

We have to implement smart meters as per central govt’s decision.”“Govt will exercise its powers as per the notification of central govt,” he told reporters. He added that the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission has also sought installation of smart meters across the country within one and a half years.There has been opposition to govt’s decision to install smart meters across the state. Some groups argue that it is wasteful expenditure for consumers who have recently installed meters, or those that are in working condition.
