Raids will be conducted on shops and establishments selling illegal pressure horns and multi-toned horns in the state
Patna: The Bihar transport department on Saturday announced a statewide special enforcement drive against vehicles using illegal pressure horns and multi-toned horns. Authorities will also conduct raids on shops and establishments selling such horns and seize them in accordance with the law.Transport secretary Raj Kumar has asked officials across the state to launch a special inspection and enforcement campaign against the unauthorised use of pressure horns and multi-toned horns in vehicles. “As per the rule, the use of pressure horns and multi-toned horns that generate noise levels beyond prescribed standards is a punishable offence under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,” he said.As part of the special drive, transport authorities will carry out intensive inspections of vehicles, including school buses and vehicles operated by educational institutions.
Any vehicle found using pressure horns or high-intensity multi-toned horns will face legal action under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.State transport commissioner Arif Ahsan has asked all district transport officers (DTOs) to undertake special enforcement operations against the use of illegal horns. In addition, letters have been issued to municipal commissioners directing them to ensure the removal of pressure horns from vehicles operated by urban local bodies.
The department has also directed district administrations to conduct raids through enforcement teams on establishments involved in the sale of pressure horns and multi-toned horns. Such horns will be seized and action will be taken against violators as per the law.Officials said pressure horns and multi-toned horns not only contribute significantly to noise pollution but also create serious concerns for road safety and public convenience. Their use is particularly problematic near hospitals, educational institutions and densely populated areas, where excessive noise causes disturbance and discomfort to residents.Raj Kumar appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to refrain from using pressure horns and multi-toned horns and to cooperate in maintaining a safe, peaceful and law-abiding traffic environment across the state.
