Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has written to the floor leaders of all the parties to join the government’s delegation to the Governor on Monday to approve the bills passed by the Assembly on providing 42% reservations to the Backward Classes in the local body polls.

Mr. Prabhakar met Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao and former Minister T. Harish Rao in the Assembly and handed over to them the letter written to the Leader of Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao, inviting him to be part of the government’s delegation.

Earlier, in the day, during the discussion on the Bill in the Assembly, Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar said the government would take a delegation to the Governor to convey the mood of the House. Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu also said that apart from sending the Bills, it was important that the mood of the House be conveyed as all the parties were in favour of extending 42% reservations to the BCs.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Payal Shankar questioned whether 42% was meant only for the BCs and sought a clarification from the government.
