Members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a dharna in front of the old Deputy Commissioner office here on Monday, demanding the government resolve the academic confusion faced by degree students.

AIDSO district vice-president Swathi said that although degree classes began a month ago across the State, guest lecturers are yet to be appointed in many colleges. Since government degree colleges are largely dependent on guest lecturers, students have been left anxious as classes have not been conducted properly.

“This situation has jeopardised their academic future. The first internal examinations are scheduled for next month, but classes have not even begun,” she said, adding that the appointment of guest lecturers has turned into a dilemma owing to the new guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), among other factors.

District committee member Hema urged the State government to take immediate steps to ensure smooth academic activity and resolve the prevailing confusion at the earliest.

Farmer leader Bannur Narayanaswamy also extended his support to the protest. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Joint Director of the Collegiate Education Department.
