NEW DELHI: A paternal grandfather is among three persons arrested for allegedly kidnapping his two-year-old grandson — a relative of Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Devendra Patel and demanding a ransom of 1.5 kilograms of gold, officials said on Friday. The child, son of Yogendra Patel (nephew of MLA Devendra Patel), was abducted from his home in Paloha village under Begamganj tehsil in Raisen district on Thursday morning. He was rescued later that night from Tamia town in Chhindwara district, around 200 km away. Superintendent of Police, Raisen, Pankaj Pandey, said the main accused is the child’s paternal grandfather, Arvind Patel. “We formed 11 police teams to trace the child.

Based on leads, we tracked him to Tamia, from where he was rescued from the house of Arvind Patel’s friend,” the SP said. The child was safely reunited with his family. According to police, Arvind Patel, along with his relative Rakesh Patel and a third accomplice, plotted the abduction and demanded 1.5 kg of gold as ransom. A van and motorbike used in the crime have been seized. The boy went missing around 11am on Thursday. Treating it as a kidnapping case, police launched a massive search using drones and sniffer dogs to track down the accused. Congress MLA Devendra Patel represents Silwani in Raisen district.
