Voicing its opposition to the formation of Greater Mysuru, district president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) L. Rangaiah said that the proposed initiative will cause more harm than good to the common citizens.

In a statement here, the AAP leader pointed out that roads, parks, and drainage systems under the existing limits of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) are not properly maintained, and accused the government of running the administration “irresponsibly” and in a “dictatorial” manner without conducting elections to the local bodies.

Claiming that the government was planning to approve the formation of Greater Mysuru by including nearby villages in the upcoming session of the Legislature, Mr. Rangaiah said that Opposition leaders will pretend to oppose the proposal, but will, in reality, support the Bill.

“The reason is that the lands in these villages are already in the hands of real estate businessmen, who are none other than the politicians in power,” the AAP leader claimed.

While taxes on houses will be increased when they are shifted from under the purview of panchayat bodies to that of Greater Mysuru, ordinary people will no longer be able to buy housing plots because their prices will skyrocket, Mr. Rangaiah said.

A Greater Mysuru will only benefit the real estate lobby, the AAP leader said, while pointing out that the prices of the plots will increase soon after its formation.
