This landmark move, effective from 22 September, is expected to ease consumer burdens across sectors while streamlining India’s tax framework (cbic.gov.in).
The GST Council, led by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has approved the most significant overhaul of India’s indirect tax regime since its launch eight years ago. The new structure merges slabs into simplified rates of 5% and 18%, while a 40% levy is reserved for select sin goods.
