Nearly two months after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during a public hearing at her official residence, the Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet in the case. The accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot, and his aide Sheikh Tehsin Raza have been named in the chargesheet filed in Tis Hazari Court. The court has taken the document on record and is expected to take cognisance on October 30.

The incident occurred on August 20 during a Jan Sunwai event at the Chief Minister’s residence. Sources said Sakariya handed over a petition before shouting and physically attacking Gupta.

He was immediately overpowered and taken into custody, with others present at the event reportedly restraining him. Preliminary investigations indicate that Sakariya had travelled to Delhi seeking the release of a relative who is in jail.

Police confirmed that Sakariya has a history of mental health issues, according to his mother, who said she was unaware of his plan to visit Delhi.

She described him as an animal lover who had been disturbed over a recent court verdict on stray dogs.

Rajkot police also questioned his mother and verified his identity and address in coordination with Delhi Police.

Rekha Gupta, who received Z-plus security, was physically unharmed but reportedly shaken by the incident.

Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva clarified that, contrary to some reports, Gupta was not slapped but involved in a scuffle during the attack.

Delhi Ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Kapil Mishra condemned the attack, calling it a conspiracy and an unforgivable crime.

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav and former Chief Minister Atishi also strongly condemned the incident, highlighting concerns over women’s safety and the need for strict action.

The chargesheet filing marks a crucial step in the legal proceedings, following a detailed investigation by Delhi Police after the arrest of the accused.

Authorities are continuing to probe the motive and background of Sakariya and his aide.
